Sheena: Quoine of the Jungle

Buxom, leopard fur clad, blonde babe. My ultimate dream. Conceived in 1938, Sheena is the most well recognized (and my favourite) heroine in the "Jungle Girl" comic genre. Orphaned and alone in the badland jungles of Kenya, as a child, Sheena was nurtured and provided for by a witch doctor. She had the capacity for telepathically communicating with jungle animals. A adept fighter with Jedi-fast reflexes, she waseducated in the use of spears, knives and bow and arrows. Sheena spent most of her time scantily clad, fighting poachers, slave traders, industrialists and Nazis... yes, Nazis. She had a boy toy sidekick in the series named Bob, who was always playing the damsel in distress and in constant need ofsaving. She was beloved by her male teen readers, and she gained a self titled series in 1942, and stayed in print until 1954.

In 1956, Sheena was adapted into an action TV series starring the alluring pin-up model Irish McCalla. She actually enacted all her own stunts and wrestled mechanical alligators. This show was quite ahead of its time in regards to the subject matter; women on 50's television were housewives busily washing dishes and keeping quiet, not triumphing over villains and saving the day! Very radical!
It lasted one season.

In 1984, Columbia Pictures released a film of Sheena starring Charlie's Angel Tanya Roberts. It has become a cult classic.

In 2001, starring Baywatch babe and Playboy Playmate Gena lee Nolin, Sheena once again came to TV screens. Somehow this lasted for two seasons!

I wish I were Sheena.
