Distracted from distraction by distraction: Summer Reading list.
You know what really grinds my gears? When people complain about the kids not reading enough, spending too much time on their phones. Or about man's predicament of being harassed by self-inflicted technology.
David Meyer (professor of psychology at the University of Michigan) is convinced that "chronic", long standing & routine distraction is as dangerous as cigarette smoking (lol at mah previous post).
Apparently we're finding it progressively more challenging to immerse ourselves in a book or a long article.
Plausibly “The next generation will not grieve because they will not know what they have lost,” says an environmentalist named Bill McKibben who I feel pressure to have possibly should have heard of.
So what, are we all supposed to pull an Henry Thoreau and cut ourselves off and live near a pond.
What I think is the great tragedy due to our short attention spans is that while porn has become such lucrative industry, which is great, it has become, in a way, unappreciated. There's no buying a VHS and watching the whole thing, the plot actually matters less than ever.
And don't get me wrong, occasionally I'll have about 3 spare minutes and I won't want a porno with a narrative, but what happened to good old fashioned fantasy!? There's no day dream in today's porn. Can you even buy pulp erotic novels anymore?!
So now these great classics, such as The Sadists & the Hostages, and Top Notch Nymph will forever be lost, and replaced with Rae Gets Fucked 3.23 minutes, or Tanya Big Tits 1.32.
So I will grieve for the generation that does not know what it is losing.
And if I do ever decide to pack up to Walden Pond, I will be bringing these with me.

Speaking of sexuality:
I've had my issues with Gaga, but I really appreciate the huge influence she has, and that she utilizes her status to provoke actual social change.
She is genuinely motivating millions and is determined to speak for the obscure & inaudible.
Some people I know have said "why do you care about this? It's not our country.", but gay rights is universal. Every step no matter how small takes us further to a world without prejudice.
And to be honest, these videos brought me to tears.
Rant town, population: me.
"You don't have to go very far to notice that the ideal for women's bodies at present is a thin, fit, radiantly healthy, young, white woman."

"

I'm using these photos to highlight what some women will say is a "real body".
I'm going to straight up say "FUCK YOU!". You're no better than people who say that skinny is the only way to be.
The majority of men don't care. As long as a woman is a stone cold fox, that's what they want. Our size is not nearly as much of an issue as we is seems in our heads.
So many women constantly attack each other on what "real women" should look like.
There is no definition of a "real woman". If it exists, I'm pretty sure it's real.
I remember being younger and feeling shit because I was a size 6 with no breasts, because I'd been "informed" that that's not a real woman. Next thing I know, I grow some hips and I don't feel skinny enough. The fact of the matter is, people are rarely happy with what they have, and everyone knows that attacking others makes you feel better about yourself.
Now don't get me wrong, I think that there should be more variation in sizes of models in editorials, mostly because fashion is an expression of who people are. But that doesn't mean I'm going to say that thin is unwomanly.
It's hard to just feel comfortable in who you are, and everyone feels shit about themselves at times, but it's important to just remind yourself what a babe you are.
