After inserting my diaphragm I fill the applicator with jelly & insert the middle finger of my left hand between the rim of the diaphragm and the vaginal wall, breaking the suction just as if I were about to take it out. Instead, I run the applicator along the finger & insert the jelly inside the diaphragm. That way it doesn't ooze out and if a sperm or two get past, they face a blob of spermicide.
How long will the jelly inside this way remain effective? Will it continue to provide a chemical barrier until the diaphragm is removed? I have gone as long as three days without removing my diaphragm (I forget it's there) & when I do, the jelly is still intact inside the dome. Is the jelly effective indefinitely?
